How to update your lamp shades
The lamp shades in your floor lamps, or at your bedside table may be dated. If you purchased your lampshades many years ago, you can update the look of your room by replacing the lamp shade. What new look do you want to achieve with your lamp ? Do you love textures ? Have you thought about textured lamp shades? Consider faux leather, bamboo, wicker, and materials with a pattern or raised texture.
If the base of your lamp is a neutral color you may not need to paint it. If you wish to paint the base of your lamp, unplug it, and separate it from the rest of the lamp. Paint outdoors on a drop cloth, newspaper, or cardboard. Use spray paints that are specific to the material that your lamp base is made out of. If it is made out of metal, find a metal spray paint and clear coat sealant. These spray paints can be purchased online and are not expensive.
The same can of paint can be used to update many of your metal items in your home decor. If you have any other items that you would like to update, such as magazine racks, metal legs of tables and chairs, and accessories.
