How design your Home Theater
Creating your own home theater room is a great way to experience technology. The large screen, your own snacks, soda, family and friends. What better way to watch your favorite program in the evening, than in your own personal theater room. Here are a few tips to help you put the finishing touches on your viewing room.
You may have leather or upholstered theater chairs. Each chair may recline and have it’s own space for drinks. You may have stairs in your room , that adds different levels to allow for more seating. You may have a great projector, tivo, stereo system, and a host of other electronic accessories hooked up to your surround sound.
You may be ready to go ahead and invite a few friends over to watch a movie. Are your walls still white? Did you properly select the right wall color to discourage light reflecting onto the screen? If you have made that mistake it is okay. Paint is inexpensive.
Choose flat paint in dark neutral colors. Great choices are black, tan, brown, purple, orange. Stay away from blue and red, even though those are dark tones the light will bounce off of them, causing your screen to not show as well as it could with dark neutral flat paint. It is true that flat paint is harder to clean and requires more maintenance than gloss style finishes of paints. Resist the urge to paint with semi gloss. Any type of paint with gloss in the description is indicating that it will reflect light and distort the picture on the screen in your home theater. This includes satin and semi gloss finishes. If you have small children you may want to keep them out of this area, when you are not using the theater. This will avoid having to clean the walls as often, or repaint often.
If you are refinishing or adding furniture to your home theater do not use any type of paint that has reflective properties, this includes satin, semi gloss, or gloss paints. If you would prefer to use wall paper of fabric on your walls, test a large swatch first. Darken the room and turn on the television or projector. See if the light is reflecting against your swatch. Movie theaters always have fabric on the walls to help block out all reflections to create a dark atmosphere.
