Interior Design Contract

We all at one time or another may have been guilty of this crime. You did not read all of the fine print. Always thoroughly ready through any document that you will be signing. Before entering into a design contract make sure that you are on the same page as the designer.

Before signing any type of contract, be clear about whom you are hiring. Do you know their credentials. Are they accredited ? Find out your potential designers professional credentials.

Previous Work

Ask to look through their portfolio with before and after photos of work they have completed. If your designer does not have any of these things …. ask yourself why they do not have any concrete evidence of their work. If for some reason they do not have pictures, ask for references. Contact these references and see if you can arrange a meeting to view the space that the designer was previously hired to do. This could be a professional space or a home that was designed.

Other projects

Ask the designer to be very clear with you on the timing of your project. A good designer will layout the amount of money to be spent on materials, home improvements, furniture, linens, window treatments, and miscellaneous items. All monies will be accounted for and documented on paper, before you sign anything. They should be honest about their realistic time frame they have to give attention to your project.
